Zanzibar is an archipelago in the Indian Ocean, just off the coast of Tanzania, mainland East Africa. Some may say that Zanzibar is a place to go when you want to escape the world. After my visit, I might agree.
When I stepped off the boat in Zanzibar, I instantly felt transported to a place where time stands still. I was struck by the mix of African and Arab cultures. Country sides were still dotted with plantations producing cloves and silhouettes of sails of fishing boats could be seen from the shore line. There was something pure about life in Zanzibar. I doubt that little has changed in the traditions of locals over the years. I hope my photos help to create an image of what I experienced during my time spent in Zanzibar. As was fitting of any island visit, a beautiful sunset ended a day of cultural indulgence.
