White Lions in South Africa

White Lions in South Africa

This Traveling Gal has had an opportunity to visit many far away places, but none can quite possibly compare to my time spent in Africa. On this particular day, I visited the Inkwenkwezi Private Game Reserve, located not far from East London in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. During this particular game drive, I viewed quite a few cats within a pride of white lions. This reserve’s lions include a breeding pride. The owners of the reserve currently keep the breeding pride enclosed in 90 hectare protected area in hopes that the lions sufficiently breed to help cover the impact that game hunters have had on the species. The Great Egret

The Great Egret

As I relaxed on my patio today, I watched this beautiful specimen perch itself high atop a tree.  Consumed in its preening, it seemed unaffected by my presence.

The Great Egret is one of the most elegant species in the heron family. Its immaculate white plumage is such a stark contrast to its black legs and yellow beak.  Truly a gift of nature. Continue reading “The Great Egret”

Devil’s Island Today

Devil’s Island Today

During a recent cruise, I had an opportunity to take a day trip to Devil’s Island. The island is a famous French penal colony in the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of French Guiana. The beauty of Devil’s Island is offset by its dark history. During the 19th and 20th Century the prison housed thousands of prisoners, mainly French political exiles. Wandering through the ruins, one can only imagine the atrocities that once took place there not so long ago. Continue reading “Devil’s Island Today”

Grand Teton National Park

Grand Teton National Park

Another of America’s greatest treasures is Grand Teton National Park.  I had the good fortune to visit this outdoor enthusiast’s paradise during a road trip to some of the great National Parks of the West.  Staying within the park only adds to the experience.  I chose to stay at the Colter Bay Cabins. It was great to wake up early and capture the morning sunrise. The solitude does wonders for the mind and soul. Continue reading “Grand Teton National Park”

Great Treasures of the U.S. Monument Valley

In looking back to the places I visited during the past year, I realize that the United States has some of the most picturesque scenery that the world has to offer.  Here are some photos from Monument Valley taken in the Navajo Tribal Park.  I had the opportunity to stay in the park overnight, and was able to capture both sunset and sunrise scenes.
