A Little Bit of Bavaria in the United States

No, these aren’t pictures from my trip to Munich.  There is a small town in the United States, northern Georgia to be exact, that makes one feel like they have been transported to Bavaria.

Yes, the 2.1 square mile town of Helen, Georgia, with a population of just around 500, may be best known for its Oktoberfest.  The annual fall celebration has become a ritual for many visitors wanting to experience the German ambiance, complete with great beer, Bavarian delicacies, parades and you guessed it, lederhosen.

Beyond the seasonal festivities, Alpine Helen offers all kinds of outdoor activities.  A visit to Anna Ruby Falls, in the heart of the Chattahoochee National Forest, offers spectacular scenery, not too strenuous hiking trails, and even some good fishing.
